Grades 4-7 This oversize guide to stargazing provides readers with paths through four chains of constellations. Starting the first route with one of the most easily identifiable constellations, the Big Dipper, the aspiring astronomer follows step-by-step directions to locating the next constellation. Each subsequent constellation's location is based on elements from earlier ones. The directions are accompanied by large, clear diagrams and information about the constellation, including mythology, significant stars, and the best time of year to look for the route. At the end of each route, the reader is provided with a complete chart of the constellations covered, followed by a photograph of just stars to practice recognizing the patterns on their own. A removable glow-in-the-dark map of the night sky is a nice addition to help guide the reader's viewing. The writing is lucid and accessible. Supplemented with information about the planets, the moon, shooting stars, and the night sky in general, this is a book the entire family can enjoy.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2017, American Library Association.)
